A quart is an English unit of volume that is equal to a quarter gallon. There are three different types of quarts that are currently used: the liquid quart and dry quart of the US customary system and the imperial quart of the British imperial system. All three of these quarts are roughly equal to one liter. A quart is divided into two pints or (in the US) four cups. In the past, the exact size of a quart has varied depending on the different values of gallons that have been used over time and in relation to different commodities.
